45° Miter & Jolly Cut Tools for Tile

Everything you need for clean, professional 45° miter (jolly) cuts on porcelain and ceramic tile. Whether you’re cutting freehand with a specialized bevel blade or using a guided attachment system for repeatable results across large volumes, this collection covers every approach used by professional tile installers — from single cuts to production-level mitering.

What’s in This Collection

  • 45° Bevel Blades — Engineered specifically for side-grinding stability and chip-free bevel edges. A wide double-sided diamond segment cuts and grinds simultaneously — one blade does both operations. The Edge Dry is the benchmark for dry 45° cutting; the ProGRES offers a more budget-friendly option.
  • Cutting Guides & Angle Attachments — Lock your angle grinder at a precise 45° for consistent, repeatable bevel cuts without freehand skill. The SLIDER 2.0 is the professional standard for guided miter cutting.
  • Dust Shrouds for 45° Cutting — Keep bevel cuts clean and dust-free on site. The TileDUSTER is designed to work alongside miter cutting setups.

How to Get a Clean 45° Miter Cut

  • Use the right blade: Standard cutting blades aren’t designed for the lateral forces of a bevel cut. A dedicated 45° blade with a wide segment is essential — it provides the side-grinding stability needed for a clean, consistent edge.
  • Use a guide for consistency: Freehand 45° cuts require significant skill and practice. A cutting guide locks the grinder angle and eliminates variation across multiple tiles — critical for large-format porcelain installations.
  • Check your grinder first: A worn gearbox with play in the spindle will chip the cut regardless of blade quality. Inspect your grinder before any miter work.
  • Control the dust: 45° dry cutting generates significant silica dust — always pair with a dust shroud and HEPA vacuum.
  • Feed rate matters: Let the blade do the work — forcing the cut overheats the segment and causes chipping on the bevel face.

For a full breakdown of blade options by job type, see our Diamond Blade Selection Guide. Pair with angle grinder blades for straight cuts and dust collection shrouds for a complete dry-cutting setup.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a jolly cut in tile installation?

A jolly cut (also called a miter or 45° bevel cut) is when the edge of a tile is ground at a 45° angle so two tiles can meet at a corner without a visible edge or trim piece. It’s a premium finishing technique used on porcelain and large-format tile for a seamless, frameless look at corners, niches, and transitions.

Can I use a regular diamond blade for 45° cuts?

No — standard cutting blades are not designed for the lateral side-grinding forces of a bevel cut. Using a regular blade for 45° work risks chipping, blade damage, and inconsistent angles. You need a blade specifically engineered for miter cutting, like the Edge Dry or ProGRES, which have wide double-sided segments built for this purpose.

Do I need a cutting guide for 45° tile cuts?

Not strictly required, but highly recommended — especially for large-format porcelain or high-volume work. A guide like the SLIDER 2.0 locks your grinder at a precise angle and eliminates the skill and consistency demands of freehand cutting. For occasional cuts on smaller tiles, an experienced installer can cut freehand with the right blade.

What causes chipping on 45° miter cuts?

The most common causes are: using the wrong blade (not designed for side grinding), a worn grinder with spindle play, forcing the cut too fast, or cutting dry without adequate blade cooling. Start with the right blade, inspect your grinder, use a guide for consistency, and let the blade feed at its natural pace.
